About the project

We created this project through a collaboration between students from KMUTT (Thailand), NAFA (Singapore), and SK Home. Inspired by the warm experience of drinking a latte, we aimed to design a piece that feels just as relaxing. Working together allowed us to combine creative ideas and make the design even better.

Inspiration & Concept
Development

The design was inspired by the calm and inviting qualities of a latte. We wanted the bean bag to evoke a sense of relaxation while maintaining a modern and appealing look. Early sketches helped to define the structure, with a focus on creating soft curves and a comfortable seating experience.

Color Palette & Materials

A palette of warm, earthy tones was chosen to reflect the warmth of a latte. The alternating color pattern mimics the smooth transition from espresso to milk, making the design both visually striking and harmonious. Soft yet durable fabrics were selected to ensure comfort and longevity.

Pattern Design

The pattern was designed to resemble a woven structure, inspired by traditional Thai weaving. We combined this with inspiration from Peranakan tiles in Singapore, which often feature patterns with alternating shapes and sizes. By blending these cultural elements, we created a pattern that feels both rhythmic and unique, reflecting a harmonious collaboration between Thai and Singaporean influences.

Prototyping & Testing

After several iterations and prototypes, we focused on achieving the perfect balance of comfort and support. The final design incorporates a carefully structured shape with soft curves that allow for a relaxing seating experience. The bean bag’s fabric and filling were tested for durability and softness, ensuring that it remains comfortable over time.

Final Design

The Latte bean bag has a soft, round shape with layered colors inspired by a cup of latte. It comes in two sizes to fit different needs. The small size is great for cozy corners, while the medium size works well in larger spaces. Both sizes can also be used together to create a warm and inviting seating area. The design was showcased at Singapore Design Week 2024 and Thailand Design Week 2025 as a collaboration between KMUTT, NAFA, and SK Home.
